FAQ

What does it mean if my "check engine" or "service engine” light comes on? There are sensors and computerized devices that handle vehicle engine performance and emissions. When one of these systems exceeds its parameters, the "check engine" icon lights up. Your car may still appear to run fine, but you should address the issue as soon as possible to avoid long-term problems.

Should I replace the timing belt when it is recommended to? Absolutely. A broken timing belt in many cars can cause major engine damage. You will save a great amount of money and aggravation by replacing your timing belt at the scheduled interval for your vehicle.

What should I do if my car begins to overheat? If your car runs for too long while it is overheating, serious and expensive engine damage can occur. Find a safe place to pull over and shut the engine off! (CAUTION: Do Not attempt to open the radiator cap as it can severely burn you. Call a tow truck to take your car to a repair shop).

Does my Battery need maintenance? Battery terminals should be cleaned and cables should be inspected to make sure they are providing a good electrical connection. If your car struggles to turn over when you’re starting it, this is usually the sign that you need a new battery. Visit to A-1 Expert, and we’ll check for any starter or connection problems as well.

When should I change my spark plugs? Spark plugs are very important to fuel economy, and overall engine performance. Your spark plugs should be replaced every two years or 24,000 miles.

When should the fuel filter be replaced? Your car's fuel filter should be replaced approximately every 24,000 miles. Check your owner's manual to see what your manufacturer recommends. In any event, a clean fuel filter will insure trouble free and more efficient performance. This is also a common cause of fuel pump failure, which will be a much more expensive option.

Can I replace a burned out fuse, with any size fuse? NO. Always replace burned out fuses with the same amperage fuse. If a fuse continues to blow, the circuit needs to be checked professionally for a short or what the root cause of the problem is.
